Jamaica off to brisk start in Nagico Super50 Regional One Day Tournament

By Patrick R. Anderson

The Jamaica Franchise defeated a hapless Leeward Islands Franchise by 9-wickets at Queen's Park Oval on Friday in the Nagico Super50 Regional One Day Tournament.

The Leewards were brushed aside for 115 off 40.1 overs, as David Bernard Jr claimed 3-10, skipper Nikita Miller 2-11 and man of the match, leg spinner Damion Jacobs 3-24. Only O. Peters 26 negotiated the Jamaican bowlers.

Nkrumah Bonner, 52 not out and John Campbell 26 gave Jamaica a fine start, while Tamar Lambert 30 not out pushed the Jamaicans over the line off 32.3 overs. Bonner swept the winning run over square off the front foot to put an exclamation mark on Jamaica's start.

They are on 5 points with Trinidad & Tobago who lead Group B on net run rate.

Jamaica's captain Nikita Miller said: "We were looking to start well, to start positive, and we got that today." While Devon Thomas of the Leewards gave the obligatory, "we will be back for the next match."
