Jamaica's boys take sixth at Youth Olympic qualifiers

Jamaica's boys Under-18 national hockey team ended their run in the Pan American Youth Olympic Games qualifiers with a 6th place finish after going down 7-2 to Brazil in Guadalajara, Mexico on Saturday. Team captain Christopher Reid and teammate Daniel Powell got the goals for the Jamaicans.

Over on the girls side, the Jamaica Under-18 team finished 5th after defeating Guatemala 3-1. Despite trailing 1-0 after 14 minutes, the Jamaicans fought back with 3 goals in 4 minutes thanks to Ajnique Williams, Imani Linton and Shadae Gillespie.

Goalkeeper and team captain Brean Blackwood says despite missing out on a spot in the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she is grateful for the experience of international competition. Both boys and girls teams are due to return home on Monday afternoon.
