Jamaica's Chess team in action too at Carifta

By Adrian Brown - reporting from Martinique

Jamaica starts its battle on Saturday at the Carifta Chess Championship in Martinique. Whereas numbers were on their side last year, the nation has fielded only five players this year.

Rachel Miller will be defending her Under-16 title, while Jaleel Thorpe (National male Under-12 champion), Adani Clarke (Female National Under-12 champion), Nashani Clarke and Kishan Clark are seeking honours.

"We're optimistic about our chances," said coach Mikhail Solomon, even though this year is one of the biggest in terms of support."

Eight nations are competing at this year's championships, up from five last year, and four in the inaugural year.
