Javon Francis, the 'people's choice'

Javon Francis, the young sprinter who anchored Jamaica to a silver medal in the men's 4x4 relay at the World Athletics Championshps in Moscow, Russia last year, was the popular "People's Choice" award winner at the RJR Sports Foundation's Sportswoman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards on Friday night in Kingston.

The award is based on a single performance that captured the imagination of fans during the year under review, and is determined by the people's vote.

There were several other nominees for this special recognition but it appeared clear that the Calabar High schoolboy had left an indelible impression on the imagination of the public when he took the baton from fifth position to finish in second place and earn Jamaica another spot on the World Championships podium for the silver medal.
