JC open Manning Cup defence with a draw

Title holders Jamaica College were held to a 1-1 draw by Hydel in the opening game of the ISSA Digicel Manning Cup at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall. JC took the lead in the 48th minute through Javain Thompson but Kemar Reid scored in the 89th minute to earn Hydel a point. Elsewhere, Wolmer's got things rolling with a 1-0 win over Jose Marti.

Dwayne Allen in the 37th minute, scored the lone goal of the game to get the Heroes’ Circle-based boys up and running. In other games, Charlie Smith beat Meadowbrook 4-1, while Camperdown edged Eltham High 1-0.

Meanwhile, defending champions Ruseas blanked Green Island High 4-0 in their opening ISSA Wata DaCosta Cup contest. The highly-touted Garvey Maceo are off and running with a 2-0 victory over Denbigh.

Garvey Maceo had to wait until the 42nd minute to break the deadlock, Gregory Cousins coming up with the opening goal. They were gifted a second as an own goal in the 57th minute by the Denbigh team was enough to ensure Garvey Maceo came away winners.

Belair and Decarteret College failed to break down each other and had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw. Ocho Rios High prevailed over Iona  as did Mannings School over Belmont Academy while Glenmuir edged Bellfield 1-0. Port Antonio High provided one of the widest margins of victory, blanking Horace Clarke 8-0  with  two goals each from Oshane Jackson, Roy Thomas and Tyreke Grayson.

Fair Prospect turned back Annotto Bay 5-2; Brimmervale edged Carron Hall 2-1 while Titchfield got by Happy Grove 2-0. It was also a 2-1 victory for Morant Bay over Robert Lightbourne while Seaforth and St Thomas Technical played to 1-1 draw. Lennon High  and Orracabessa clipped Edwin Allen and Marcus Garvey 1-0 respectively.
