As was reported by RJR Sports on Tuesday, Mireya Grey has been confirmed as the replacement for injured striker Kayla McCoy in the Reggae Girlz World Cup squad. 20 year old Grey is expected to arrive in France on Friday to join up with the 23-member squad. Grey, who is a junior at the University of Washington, made her senior debut in the Reggae Girlz' final home game against Panama before their departure which the Jamaicans won 3-1.
She has also represented Jamaica at the Under-20 level. Grey's father Heron represented Seba United in the National Premier League. McKoy was ruled out of the World Cup after suffering an injury during Jamaica's final warm-up game against Scotland last Tuesday.
The Reggae Girlsz will open their account on Sunday against Brazil at 8:30 am Jamaica time before facing Italy on Friday, June 14 and close out their group fixture against Australia on Tuesday, June 18.
