KC to have synthetic track installed

Voices of Christina Bachelor, Zico Campbell and Jevaughn Matherson

Kingston College will soon join Calabar as the only local high schools boasting all weather tracks. Ground was broken on Friday for the installation of a synthetic track at KC’s Melbourne campus in Kingston.

Christina Bachelor of the Rujohn Foundation says the organisation will provide seventy-five percent of the US$440,000 project.

“My dad was an under-privileged person when he lived in Jamaica and throughout my entire life he talked about the importance of KC. I just want to give the kids here an opportunity to excel in sports without getting injured,” she said.

Student athletes Zico Campbell and Jevaughn Matherson were equally excited at the possibilities: “Having the track here means KC will have a better chance of winning ‘Champs’ because it will reduce injuries and make athletes better,” said Campbell.

According to Matherson: “It will definitely lesson injuries and it’s a much better surface than the grass track that we have so it’s a step in the right direction for all of us”.

The project which will be under the direction of the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) will be overseen by BSW Regupol of Germany with construction work by Pave Con of Jamaica.
