Local franchise tournament to start after completion of Senior Cup

Report by RJR Gleaner Group Sports Reporter Jordan Forte

The Jamaica Cricket Association has confirmed the implementation of a franchise tournament to follow the Senior Cup competition starting in September this year.

JCA president Wilford 'Billy' Heaven gave the confirmation at a working board meeting at the association's headquarters at Sabina Park.

The JCA had previously told RJR Sports of plans to implement the franchise system, which would see the top players from the Senior Cup placed into a pool and split among the six franchise teams. Members of the Jamaica Scorpions franchise will also participate in the tournament.

The tournament is not a new one, but rather a revival of a county championship held some time ago.
