Jockeys at Caymanas Park are set to earn for a $1,000 pay increase. This was confirmed by president of the Jamaica Jockeys' Guild, Shane Ellis who says, after a meeting at the track on Tuesday, jockeys will now earn $2,500 for a losing ride. 25 jockeys showed up at the meeting to discuss a number of issues, chief among them a pay increase for a losing ride.
Also, discussed was the building of a new jockeys' room. Expansion work is set to be done with a new sauna to be installed at the first stage. In the meantime, ellis says talks have begun with owners to consider wages for exercise riders. Up to the end of 2017, there were 86 registered jockeys while, 31 have registered so far this year.
