Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

Derby runner-up Marquesas finally delivered on the promise he showed as champion 2 year old by winning the final leg of the Triple Crown Series, the 92nd running of the Sagicor Bank Jamaica St Leger going over 10 furlongs on Saturday at Caymanas Park.

The 3 year old bay colt who was made with former champion jockey Shane Ellis in the saddle took the lead before the turn for home and could not be caught, recording the first St Leger victory for trainer Michael Marlowe and the third for jockey Shane Ellis. Marquesas won by 18 lengths ahead of Fayrouz and My Beirut.

Meanwhile, reigning Horse of the Year She's A Maneater returned to winning ways capturing Eros Trophy, a graded Stakes event over 7 furlongs. Jockeys Dick Cardenas and Anthony Thomas as well as trainers Rudolph Hardial and Gary Subratie had two winners on the day. Racing continues on Wednesday, August 1.
