Mills begs for patience with O'Hara

Voice of Racers Track Club head coach Glen Mills

Head coach of the Racers Track Club glen Mills says there is no need for alarm where talented young sprinter Michael O'Hara is concerned. O'Hara has been a shadow of himself in his first season out of high school.

The 19 year old who has personal best times of 10.19 and 20.45 seconds for 100 and 200 metres respectively, has only ran 10.57 and 21.19 this year. But Mills says a long time injury has so far hampered his progress.

“He has been hurt for most of the time and hasn’t been able to do much speed work. He has a foot problem that has been plaguing him for several years now and we are trying to get him right in conjunction with the medical team out here. We are trying to get him healthy and work on his mechanics and once we get those things in place, then we should be able to get him going and see his true potential coming out,” said Mills.

Against this background, Mills is confident the 2013 World Youth 200m champion will produce in time, adding that it takes time to make the transition from the high school to the professional level.
