Mixed reactions to changes in local racing calendar

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

Reactions have been mixed regarding the new look to the 2020 local racing calendar. Wednesday racing has virtually been phased out with more racing now slated for Fridays and Sundays. The 2020 local racing calendar will see Saturdays having the usual highest number of race days with a total of 52 programmes on that day of the week.

However, the new innovation by the promoting company Supreme Ventures, Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) will now see racing on 17 Sundays and 5 Fridays with New Year's Day and Ash Wednesaday being the only Wednesday programmes. In addition, public holidays will result in racing being staged on three Mondays and one Thursday.

Chairman of SVREL, Solomon Sharpe says the decision to inject more Friday and Sunday racing came about after careful analysis. The 2020 racing calendar at Caymanas Park will have a total of 80 race days.
