Molly Rhone is Sagicor Iconic Award recipient for 2013

Molly Rhone, long-serving netball administrator, was Friday night’s recipient of the Sagicor Iconic Award for 2013 at the RJR Sports Foundation’s Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards in Kingston.

Born in Manchester, she began playing netball as a student at the Knox Community College in Manchester, becoming part of that school’s senior team by age 13.  She was a member of the Jamaican team to the World Netball tournament in New Zealand in 1975.

In 1991 Molly Rhone became Vice-President of the Jamaica Netball Association and two years later was elevated to the Presidency.

In 2003 her Presidency of the JNA culminated with the highly successful staging of the IFNA World Championships in Netball in Kingston. Shortly after, she was elected President of the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA), becoming the first Jamaican to head an international global sports organization.

In 2011 she received Jamaica's fourth higest honour, the Order of Jamaica, at the Jamaica National Honours and Awards Ceremony, for services locally and internationally, in Sports Administration, in particular netball.

She had previously been awarded the Order of Distinction, in 1999.
