Nadal gone from Australian Open

Fourteen grand slam winner Rafael Nadal of Spain was ousted from the Australian Open Tennis Championships in Melbourne on Tuesday, beaten 6-2 6-0 7-6 by Tomas Berdych in the 1/4 finals of the men's singles event.

Nadal's fitness finally caught up with him, this being his 8th match since June 2014 following a right wrist injury and appendix surgery.

In defeating Nadal, Berdych ended a string of 17 consecutive losses to the Spaniard.

Britain's Andy Murray, seeded at 6th, defeated local star Nick Kyrgios 6-3 7-6 6-3 to end the 19 year old's run at the tournament.

Both Berdych and Murray are now safely through to the semi-finals, awaiting the other quarter-final results.

Later on Tuesday, top seed Novak Djokovic plays Canada's Milos Raonic, while defending champion Stanislav Wawrinka, seeded at 4 plays last year's beaten finalist Kei Nishikora of Japan in quarter final matches.
