Nail-biting victory for Windies over India

Records tumbled at the Broward Regional Park in Florida as West Indies produced a thrilling one run victory over India in the first of two Twenty20 Internationals on Saturday. Sent to bat, West Indies recorded the third best ever T20 total of 245-6.

24 year old Trinidadian Evin Lewis, in only his second game, became the second West Indian after Chris Gayle to score a T20 international hundred.

Man-of-the-Match Lewis put on 126 for the first wicket with Johnson Charles who hit 79 from 33 deliveries. The partnership which came off just 9.3 overs, laid a strong foundation for the West Indies.

Lewis also added 78 in six overs with Jamaican Andre Russell who got 22 from 12. Ravindra Jadeja 2-39 and Jasprit Bumrah 2-47, were the pick of the Indian bowlers. Chasing 246 to win, India stayed on course all the way through.

They were led by KL Rahul's maiden century from 46 balls, the second fastest in T20s. He made 110 not out and along with Rohit Sharma 62, set a platform for an Indian win, but with eight to get from the last over, Dwayne Bravo bowled a beauty to inch the Caribbean side home in-front of largely Indian support.

Having claimed Dhoni’s wicket for 43, Bravo joined an exclusive club of players to have taken 50 wickets and scored over a thousand runs in T20 Internationals.

Shahid Afridi of Pakistan and Bangladesh's Shakib al Hasan are the only other players to have done so. The 489 runs scored, is the most in any T20 international; so too is the 32 sixes struck in the contest. The second game will start at 9 o'clock on Sunday morning.
