A High Performance Training Centre is needed in Jamaica. That's the word from Jamaica's head coach to the recent IAAF World Athletics Championships, Maurice Wilson. Wilson says if the country is to be more successful in helping outstanding junior athletes make the transition to the senior ranks, a High Performance Centre should be put in place to cater to their all-round needs.
An IAAF High Performance Centre was based in Jamaica from the early 2000s until 2013 with the likes of Usain Bolt and Jermaine Gonzalez being beneficiaries. Wilson says it needs to be re-established in Jamaica.
“We need to have a High Performance Centre in Jamaica because we have the coaches and technical expertise here. We have so many other Caribbean nations that are doing well and Jamaica should be the mecca for the information,” said Wilson.
