National Junior Champs postponed

Voice of JAAA General Secretary Garth Gayle

The two-day JAAA National Junior Athletics Championships which was scheduled to begin on Saturday at the National Stadium, was postponed due to the inclement weather. General Secretary of the JAAA Garth Gayle explained the reasons for postponing the Meet.

“When we looked at the satellite image of the disturbance, it had a pattern where the weather would not be stable so that would not be good for athletes in training or in competition. We hadn’t started the competition and we thought that if the weather was going to be unstable, it would be best for us to make a decision on whether it would be safe (to go ahead with the meet” said Gayle. The meet will now be merged with the National Senior Championships next weekend (June 22-25).

The young athletes are hunting places on Jamaica's team to the IAAF World Under-18 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya from set for July 6-17, the Commonwealth Youth Games from July 19-23 in the Bahamas and the Under-20 Pan American Junior Championships from July 21- 23 in Lima, Peru.
