Local boxing fans who have been longing for more events, will get the chance this summer as Wray and Nephew plans to start an amateur fight series next month. After the cancellation of the long serving Wray and Nephew Contender Series in January, there has been only a few boxing events around the country. However, speaking on Hitz 92 FM's Sports Grill recently with host Simon Crosskill, national coach and owner of the Hard Knocks Gym Andrew Boland broke the news that the rum punch series for amateur boxers will get underway in July.
Boland along with fellow national coach Carl Grant revealed that a press conference will be held soon to announce the dates and fighters for the series. He also believes the Rum Punch Series will help to revive the fortunes of boxing in Jamaica.
