No repercussions for JAAA after voting abstention- IAAF CEO

Voice of IAAF CEO Olivier Gers

IAAF CEO Olivier Gers says he is disappointed with the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association’s (JAAA) decision to abstain from voting for constitutional reform at a special congress last year, but says local track and field's governing body will face no fall-out from the decision.

The JAAA was one of only five countries who decided to abstain from voting at December's special congress in Monaco as 182 out of 197 member federations voted "yes" in favour of the widespread reform.

"Let me be very clear there will be no repercussions. The regime of Sebastian Coe as president is not about repercussions; it’s not about retribution; it’s about transparency and open voting and if we have differences in opinions, then so be it’ let’s discuss it,” said Gers.

The shelving of term limits for presidents under the new constitution was one of the factors the JAAA president says influenced the abstention, but Gers says Blake's proposal to vote on the reforms individually was unrealistic.
