Organizer defends Neymar 5-a-side Challenge in Jamaica

Event organizer of the Jamaica leg of the Neymar Junior Five Challenge, Donald Leyow has defended the introduction of the competition in Jamaica, saying the number of short version football events can only help to develop local players. Speaking at the launch of the challenge series, Leyow said top players around the world have used competitions like the Neymar Junior 5-A-Side series to develop their skills.

The Neymar Junior Series will also give seven Jamaicans the opportunity to go to Brazil for the world final of the competition and a chance to play against a Neymar select team. Local Premier League campaigners Portmore United are also a part of the series with six players, one from each qualifier given the chance to do pre-season training with the current Red Stripe Premier League champions. The series will run from May 4 to June 8.
