Pakistan rally to beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in 1st test

Pakistan rallied from 96-5 replying to Sri Lanka's first innings 300 all out, to come all the way back and win the first test by 10 wickets in four days at Galle, to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.

Asad Shafiq who scored 131 for Pakistan and was integrally involved in two key partnerships with Sarfraz Ahmed, 96, (139 for the 6th wicket) and Zulfiqar Barbar 56, (101 for the 9th wicket), enabled Pakistan in their victory bid despite losing the first day due to rain.

Pakistan scored 417 in their first innings for a 117 run first innings lead, and then dismissed Sri Lanka for 206 with 29-year-old leg spinner Yasir Shah claiming 7-76. Dimuth Karunaratne 79, Lahir Thirimanne 44 and Dinesh Chandimal 38 led the scoring for Sri Lanka. This left Pakistan needing 92 for victory, and they cruised to victory with Mohammad Hafeez 46 and Ahmed Shehzad 43 leading the way.

Final scores: Sri Lanka 300 and 206; Pakistan 417 and 92-0.
