Plans are in place to have three stadium facilities built across the island, according to Minister of Sport Olivia 'Babsy' Grange.
There have long been plans to renovate the national stadium, and Minister Grange revealed that the government is working on having two other stadium facilities either built or upgraded in other locations across the island.
“We are looking at three mini stadia across Jamaica but we’ll announce all those details when we have our media launch in March. In some instances, the basic infrastructure is already there but we’ll have to identify a facility that will have to be upgraded to the standard where it can be treated as a mini stadium,” said Minister Grange.
Talks have also surfaced about having a synthetic track installed in central Jamaica, but Minister Grange did not disclose which specific facilities would be targeted.
“What I can say is that there will be major sports infrastructure development as part of the Jamaiaca 55 Legacy Programme,” noted the minister.
