Post positions known for 96th Cal's Jamaica Derby

1000 Guineas winner Nuclear Affair will be coming out of gate number 4 while 2000 Guineas winner Future King, the  winter-book favourite, has drawn post position 7 for the 96th running of the Cal's Jamaica Derby over 12 furlongs on Saturday at Caymanas Park.

The draw for post positions took place in the trainers’ room at Caymanas Park on Wednesday afternoon for the thirteen contenders in the $7 million blue ribband event among the classics.

Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta who has won five derbys, will be saddling two runners. The favourite Future King, the winner of the 2000 Guineas, will be ridden by Robert Halledeen and will be coming out of gate # 7.

Stable companion A Thousand Stars who won the Jamaica Oaks, will be partnered by five time champion jockey Omar Walker and will start from post position # 1.

The long-striding Nuclear Affair,  the 1000 Guineas heroine, will be coming out of gate # 4 under Aaron Chatrie.

Anthony 'Baba’ Nunes will also be saddling two contenders. 2000 Guineas runner-up  Orpheus with champion jockey Shane Ellis has drawn post position 6 while Governor's Cup winner Bigdaddykool will be coming out of gate # 3 with Linton Steadman, one of two apprentices to have secured a ride in the Derby.

Two time champion Joe Buchanan who is riding in the Derby for the first since 2003, will be partnering the spirited filly Pinelope who will be coming out of gate 11.
