Reggae Boyz protest over poor hotel accomodation in Antigua

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz refused to take the field for training on Tuesday morning in protest over the poor state of the hotel in Antigua where they had been booked to stay ahead of their CONCACAF Nations League against the host nation on Friday. The players’ action was supported by the management and coaching staff who also complained about the poor condition at the hotel.in St John’s.

The delegation left the island on Monday for the upcoming contest and were booked to stay at the Starfish Halcyon Cove Hotel which they say was highly recommended. But when the players arrived in Antigua, conditions at the hotel were far from ideal to say the least.

Rooms were mosquito-infested, beds were small and contained dirty linen, bathrooms dirty and without tissues and the players refused to use the bed as they stayed up through the night. JFF president Michael Ricketts described the situation as unfortunate.

As a result, Tuesday's training session was cancelled and Ricketts says he hopes the situation doesn't affect the teams preparation. The JFF has also made arrangements to relocate the team to a different hotel.

Jamaica lead Group "C" of League "B" with 12 points and need a point to secure promotion to League "A" and automatic qualification to the 2021 Gold Cup. The match against Antigua and Barbuda will take place at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Friday.
