Reggae Girlz exit FIFA Women's World Cup with consolation goal

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Karen Madden in France

Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz had something to celebrate despite seeing their slim hopes of advancing to the round of 16 of the FIFA Women's World Cup in France disappear. Substitute Havana Solaun created history by scoring their first ever goal at the tournament, having netted in the 49th minute of their team’s 4-1 loss to Australia in Grenoble on Tuesday.

The Reggae Girlz lost their previous Group “C” games 3-0 to Brazil and 5-0 to eventual group winners Italy. Australia took the runner-up spot while Brazil advanced as one of the four best third placed teams. All three teams finished on 6 points each.
