Schweisteiger joins MLS from EPL

German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger will join Major League Soccer (MLS) team Chicago Fire, after they reached an agreement with Manchester United, subject to a medical and visa being secured. The 32 year old midfielder has signed a one-year contract with an option for a further year.

Schweinsteiger, who was signed by former United boss Louis van Gaal in July 2015, played just four games since Jose Mourinho took over as manager as he was forced to train alone or with the Under-23 side.

He will now be the desingated player at the Fire who have finished with the lowest point total in MLS for the past two seasons and have only played in one playoff game since reaching the conference finals in 2009.
