Scorpions crash to 34 run defeat against Hurricanes

The Jamaica Scorpions went down by 34 runs to the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in their 7th round day/night Digicel 4-day regional cricket match at Sabina Park on Sunday.

Jermaine Blackwood 48, Jerome Taylor 17 and Brandon King 17, were the only batsmen to offer any resistance as the Scorpions who were set 149 to win, were dismissed for 114.

West Indies Under-19 pacer Alzarri Josephs did most of the damage by grabbing 5-43 and a match haul of 7-79 while Jeremiah Louis returned 4-23 and a match haul of 8-27.

Earlier, resuming on 31-5, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes posted 133 all out with Jahmar Hamilton making 45 and Jeremiah Louis getting 23. Rovman Powell, Jerome Taylor, captain Nikita Miller and Damion Jacobs took two wickets each for the Scorpions. Scores in the match: Leeward Islands Hurricanes 71 and 133; the Jamaica Scorpions 56 and 114.

Meanwhile, the Barbados Pride led by career-best figures of 7-22 from Roston Chase, completed an emphatic nine wicket win over Windward Islands Volcanoes at Kensington Oval.

Resuming on 34-5 with a lead of only three runs, the Volcanoes were quickly bundled out for 71 as Chase was supported by pacer Miguel Cummins who bagged 3-47.

Set 40 for victory, the Pride coasted home at 41-1 with Anthony Alleyne scoring 26 to go past 500 runs for this season.

The win pushed the Barbados Pride to the top of the table with 87.4 points while the Windward Islands Volcanoes remain in fifth with 53.4 points. Scores in the match: Windward Islands Volcanoes 293 and 73, Barbados Pride 324 and 41-1. 

And defending champions Guyana Jaguars need a further 53 runs to beat host Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at the Queen’s Park Oval.

The Jaguars resuming on their overnight 246 were dismissed for 330 with overnight batsmen Raymon Reifer and Romario Shepherd scoring 55 and 53 respectively. Marlon Richards picked up 4-57 while Bryan Charles claimed 3-70 for the hosts.

Faced with a 110 run deficit, the Red Force could only muster 183 all out as Veerasammy Permaul bagged 7-48.

Isaiah Rajah made the most runs with 40 while Yannick Cariah got 30. Scores in the match: Trinidad and Tobago Red Force 202 and 183, Guyana Jaguars 330 all out.
