Serena Williams shines again at U.S. Open Tennis Championships

Shaking off early nerves at the 23,000 seat Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York,  World Number-1 Serena Williams cruised past 10th seed Caroline  Wozniacki of Denmark 6-3 6-3 in 75 minutes to win her 3rd consecutive U.S. Open women's singles title at the last Grand Slam event for 2014.

Williams won her 18th career Grand Slam title, and was winning a Grand Slam event for the first time since last year's U.S. Open title.

The 32-year-old Williams now sits in joint 4th place in grand slam titles, with tennis greats Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova.

Williams also matched Evert's 6-US Open titles, and became the first woman to win three in a row since Evert's "four-peat"  1975-1978.

Marin Cilic and Kei Nishikori will contest Monday's men's singles final. Cilic ousted Roger Federer in the semi-final, while Nishikori did likewise against Novak Djokavic
