Serena Williams takes 6th Australian Open title

Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova of Russia on Saturday to win her sixth Australian Open and 19th Grand Slam title. The American world number took the final 6-3 7-6 (7-5).

With this, her 19^th Grand Slam singles title, 33 year old Williams, moves past Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, placing her second only to Steffi Graf

She has now beaten Sharapova, the world number two, 16 times in a row, dating back to 2004.
