Top national junior representative Llori Sharpe finished second in the 16-19 aquathlon on Sunday’s second and final day of the inaugural Carifta Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships in Barbados.
Despite swimming an extra lap in the pool, Sharpe posted 37 minutes and 13 seconds to finish behind Chrismaldy Robert from Guadeloupe in the 1km swim and 5km run which formed the aquathlon. Fellow Jamaican Johnathan Lyn placed 5th in the boys’ equivalent after he also swam an extra lap in the pool.
In the 13-15 triathlon, first-timer Nathan Williamson placed 21st. 11-12 triathlon debutants Ethan Moore and Israel Allen finished 8th and 13th respectively.
The team’s coach Elisabeth Mondon said the experience was good for the athletes as they have seen real competition and now know the amount of work that needs to be put into future preparation. The team will return to the island on Monday.
