She's A Maneater beats Will In Charge in another thriller

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

Six time former champion jockey Omar Walker aboard She's A Maneater and reigning Horse of Year Will In Charge with Robert Hallendeen aboard, produced another epic match-race at Caymanas Park on Saturday. In the end, She's A Maneater beat Will In Charge by neck to capture the Legal Light Trophy in a repeat performance of last year's Superstakes finish.

After dissapointing performances from both horses in the Lady Geeta Trophy over six furlongs a month ago, most racing fans expected a titanic battle between the two top distance horses in the country going nine furlongs and twenty-five yards. With no speedball in the race, it was left to Halledeen to put Will In Charge on the headlines for the first three furlongs alongside Superluminal.

But after dismissing Christopher Mamdeen aboard Superluminal, Halledeen sent the reigning Horse of the Year about his business. However, Walker seeing the danger, kept the mighty filly within striking distance. From there onwards, it was a match race between the two top horses in the land as She’s A Maneater came home in a new stakes record of 1 minute. 54.2 sseconds.

Leading rider Christopher Mamdeen along with fellow apprentice Reyan Lewis and Bebeto Harvey, each had a double on the 10-race card while champion trainer Wayne DaCosta and Richard Azan both had two wins each. Racing continues on Thursday with the Labour Day programme.
