She's A Maneater gives DaCosta his first Superstakes victory

Commentary by Track Announcer Brian Rickman

16-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta broke his jinx in the Burger King Superstakes when his Triple Crown winner She's A Maneater landed the 39th running of the 10-furlong event at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

There was a late development before the $4.5 million race as apprentice Anthony Thomas was called up at short notice to replace 3-time former champion jockey Dane Nelson who had been down to ride She's A Maneater but pulled out of the remainder of his riding assignments after race 8 due to what RJR Sports understand was dehydration.

Thomas then produced a brilliant ride to guide the 3-5 favourite She's A Maneater to a two-length victory over last year's winner Bigdaddykool; having survived a steward's enquiry.

Apprentice Thomas stole the show with a double, having earlier landed the Caribbean Sprint championship over 6 furlongs for the Glen Mills O.D. Trophy aboard the 5-2 chance Chace The Great for trainer Dwight Chen.

Elsewhere on the programme, Houdini's Magic under Shane Ellis for trainer Anthony ‘Baba’ Nunes, captured the Coca Cola Invitational Mile while the Coca Cola 2 year old Juvenile Sprint went to Patriarch with Dick Cardenas astride for trainer Anthony ‘Baba’ Nunes. Racing continues on Wednesday.
