Simmons, Guptill lead Amazon Warriors to a thumping victory

By Patrick R. Anderson

The victory was comprehensive.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors registered an efficient 10-wicket win with 31 balls to spare to unseat Jamaica Tallawahs as Limacol CPL Champions. The Warriors will face Barbados Tridents on Saturday at 3p.m local time at Warner Park in St. Kitts, to decide the 2014 Champions.

The Tallawahs took first strike and were never comfortable against a tight Amazon Warriors bowling staff marshalled by Jamaica's Krishmar Santokie. They were held to 134-6 off their 20-overs as Chris Gayle was cut down for 19 and the other batsmen struggled.

Andre Russell again looked set for another round of heroics, but he was fortuitously run out when backing up at the non striker's end, gone for 20. Chadwick Walton topscored with 34 while Nkrumah Bonner made 21.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors batted with purpose and efficiency, reaching 138-0 off 14.5 overs to win with ease and set-up Saturday's grand finale against Barbados Tridents. Lendl Simmons belted 71 not out to be adjudged man of the match, while Martin Guptill supported with a competent 66 not out.

Television Jamaica and HITZ92FM will have LIVE coverage of Saturday's final.
