Sotomayor wins feature race at Caymanas Park

Last year's Derby runner-up and the 1-4 favourite Sotomayor under apprentice Linton Steadman for trainer Anthony ‘Baba’ Nunes, captured the Valbert Marlowe Memorial Cup, a Restricted Allowance 3 contest over 9 furlongs at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
 
The 4 year old grey colt posted 1 minute, 55 seconds flat second to win by a length and a half over Simply Outrageous. Meanwhile, 2015 sprint champion Poker Star made it a gate to wire affair in the Overnight Allowance contest over 6 furlongs. Poker Star who was scoring his first victory in over two years, was guided to victory by 6-time champion jockey Omar Walker for 17-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta.

Leading jockey Anthony Thomas had a double on the 11 race programme to move his tally for the season to  48 wins, 13 clear of former champion Shane Ellis atop the jockeys' championship. Apprentice Linton Steadman and trainer Anthony ‘Baba’ Nunes also combined for a double on the card. Racing continues next Saturday.
