South Africa declares on 552-5

South Africa remained firmly in control of the first test match against the West Indies on Thursday, declaring at 552/5 mid-afternoon on day two of the match at Centurian, South Africa.

The South Africans, continuing where they had left off on the first day, dominated the morning's proceedings, with captain Hashim Amla building massively on his century to make 208, and A.B. De Viliers making 152.

But that was not the end of the hammering for the West Indian bowlers. Stiaan van Zyl, also got in on the century-making act, reaching 101 before the declaration came.

Rain then intervened, bringing a halt to the proceedings before the visitors could begin their reply.

Bowling for the West Indies, spinner Sulieman Benn took 2/148 from 46 overs, and Kemar Roach 2/52 from 15.5 overs. Sheldon Cottrell took the only other wickts to fall, while conceding 128 runs from his 28 overs.
