South African football official confirms US$10 million payment to CFU in FIFA corruption scandal

Confirmation has come that CONCACAF received US$10 million from the South African Football Association, corroborating what was stated in the U.S. Attorney General's  indictment last Thursday.

The money was allegedly transferred into an account held in the name of the Caribbean Football Union, CFU, and CONCACAF by then regional leader Austin "Jack" Warner.

The South African Association President Danny Jordaan says the money was paid, but denies it was  a bribe.

He said it came years after South Africa won the world cup bid, and was a contribution to a development fund.

South Africa's Sports Minister  Fikile Mbalula, released a response to Jordaan's statement.

The Minister said any inferences drawn from the statements attributed to Danny Jordaan which seeks to insinuate that South Africa's position is contradictory is not only misleading but mischievous at best.

He reaffirmed the position that no public funds have been utilised to pay any bribe or to commit any unlawful acts.
