Speid calls for RSPL season to be abandoned

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Simon Preston

Technical Director of Cavalier Football Club Rudolph Speid feels that the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) should be abandoned for the rest of the season. Speid says with the growing spread of the Covid 19 coronoavirus on the island, it will be difficult to have any matches between now and the end of April. Speid expects challenges for next season and also anticipates a delayed start to schoolboy football in 2020.

Meanwhile, General Manager of the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) Pat Garel says the body will be meeting in the coming days to discuss the status of the league.

One of the matters that will be discussed is the treatment of UWI FC and Vere United who are currently in the relegation zone. The last time the nation's top flight league was abandoned was in 1982.
