Sporting Central Academy impressive in RSPL opening round

By Patrick R. Anderson

Sporting Central Academy got off to an impressive start in the 2014-2015 Red Stripe Premier Football League, defeating Boys' Town 3-0 at the Juici Patties Park in Clarendon.

Showing positive play and a command of midfield, Sporting were led to victory by two goals from their talisman Francois Swaby in the 20th and 52nd minutes, while Andre Jones put Boys' Town to bed with a 90th minute fiinsh.

At the Compound, Michaelos Martin's header on 17 nminutes was the difference as Arnett Gardens clipped rivals Harbour View 1-0. At Bramwell Clarke Complex in Ewarton, Rivoli United were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Cavalier F.C. Jeffrey Grant netted in the 39th minute to give Cavalier the lead, but Jermaine White cancelled out that advantage three minutes from the half time interval.

In the late kick-off at Effortville Community Centre, another road team claimed a share of the points, as Tivoli Gardens held home team Humble Lion F.C. 1-1. Wolry Wolfe gave Humble Lion the lead in the 14th minute, while Kaemmar Daley equalised for Tivoli Gardens in the 70th minute.

The match between Waterhouse F.C. and Barbican F.C. was not played as Waterhouse sought and were given a postponement, because five of their players are on national duty in Canada, where the Reggae Boyz play Canada on Tuesday (Sept. 8) in a friendly international at 6:30p.m. Jamaica time. The game will be televised LIVE on TVJ Sports Network.

Meanwhile, there are doubts surrounding the Monday night fixture between defending champions Montego Bay United and Reno at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex. Montego Bay United officials say they are not honouring their fixtures until long standing issues between the Clubs and the  Premier League Clubs' Association, PLCA, are resolved. The PLCA, however, which runs the Premiership, says the fixture is scheduled to be played.
