St Catherine High lift historic Walker Cup KO title

St Catherine High created history by winning their first ever major school boy football title after pulling off a competitive 3-2 win over Excelsior High in the ISSA Walker Cup final at the National Stadium on Friday. It was the boys from Mountain View Avenue who got the breakthrough as Jhevon Smith notched his 10th goal of the season to give them a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.

Seven minutes later St Catherine got their equalizer through Kamaica Davis. Assanie Brown in minute 39 then put St Catherine 2-1 up with his 18th goal of the season. Brown completed his double and gave his team some breathing space right on the stroke of halftime.

In the second half, Excelsior were given a lifeline with a penalty which was converted by Smith for his second of the afternoon in the 79th minute. But with the Eagles were not able to come up with an equalizer, as St Catherine celebrated a famous win to claim their first senior schoolboy football title.
