Next week's Superstakes and next month's Diamond Mile will be missing one of the top three year olds and classic winner for this season. St Leger winner and Derby runner-up Marquesas has been ruled out for the remainder of this year after sustaining a right knee injury which was further aggravated in the Nigel B. Nunes Memorial Cup on last month's Heroes Day programme.
As a result, the 3 year old bay colt will now undergo surgery on November 12. The surgery will be performed by Barbadian-born equine veternarian Dr Jonathan White who also operated on another top 3 year old, Patriarch earlier this year. Marquesas who also finished 4th in this year's 2000 Guineas, racked up stakes earnings of $4.75 million from 7 starts this season.
