St Mary High continued their dominance of the Eastern Athletics Championships, retaining their title after Tuesday’s final day of competition at the National Stadium. St Mary High tallied 691.5 points, well over 100 points more than Buff Bay High who scored 516 with Titchfield third on 275.5.
10 records were broken at the meet with St Mary High responsible for five, three in the relays and two individual records. Buff Bay high's Romaine Beckford was once again one of the standout perfomers of the meet, breaking the Class One high jump record, clearing 2.05 metres. He was named champion boy for his efforts.
Meanwhile, St Mary High's Danelia Gardner, who won the high jump before setting a record enroute to gold in the long jump, was named the champion girl. The champions received $250,000 for their victory, courtesy of Grand Prix title sponsors Digicel.
The next stop in the 5-meet series will be the Corporate Area Championships on Friday and Saturday before culminating with the GC Foster Classic on March 16.
