Stephenson now the front-runner after re-entering race for JFF presidency

The race for the JFF presidency has gathered more momentum with former KSAFA president Stewart Stephenson coming back into the contest, bringing the number of potential candidates to five. With nomination for candidates set to close on Tuesday, August 1, the five likely candidates met with the St Catherine Football Association on Monday as they make last ditch efforts to boost their chances for the seat at the higher office.

Stephenson along with St Ann Fa President Danny Beckford; Clarendon FA boss Michael Ricketts, St Mary FA head Raymond Anderson and  head of the Phoenix Academy Craig Butler, all met with the 13-man executive committee of the St Catherine FA to which they made individual presentations.

It’s understood that Stephenson, who earlier pulled out of the race before deciding to return, impressed during his presentation.

According to RJR Sports sources, Stephenson not only presented a way forward for the JFF but also stated that under his stewardship, every parish president and general secretary would receive a monthly stipend.

It’s understood that the stipend could be $250,000 monthly for each president and $125,000 each for the general secretaries on a monthly basis. Peter Reid is the president of the St Catherine FA. Our sources say the pendulum is now swinging in the direction of Stephenson who is also gaining traction from other parish presidents. The election for a new JFF president o replace the late Captain Horace Burrell, is set for September 16.
