Still a lot of time to make decision on Tokyo Olympics - JOA boss

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Jordan Forte

President of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) Christopher Samuda says it's still too early to make a decision on this summer's Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. This, as fears grow worldwide over the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Former International Olympic Committee (IOC0 vice president Richard 'Dick' Pound just this week warned that there should be a three month window to determine whether the Tokyo Olympic Games will go ahead.

JOA president Christopher Samuda has echoed similar sentiments. Samuda says despite the growing concerns over the deadly Covid-19 virus, it's still too early to cancel the Games. But while saying that there is still time to decide whether the Games will go ahead, Samuda says an early decision would benefit all involved.

The Ministry of Health on Thursday announced that it is now monitoring the situation in Japan to determine whether it will be added to the list of countries now under travel restrictions. Samuda says any decision the JOA takes will be with the advice of the Ministry of Health. The summer Olympic Games is scheduled to run from July 24 to August 9 in Tokyo, Japan.
