Sunshine Girls make winning start at Netball World Cup

Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls made a winning start to their campaign in Group “C” at the 2019 INF Netball World Cup in Liverpool, England, hammering Fiji 85-29 on Friday. The Sunshine Girls held quarterly leads of 19-8; 49-14 and 67-18. Captain Jhaniele Fowler led the scoring for Jamaica with 33 goals from 35 attempts, while Romelda Aiken had 26 from 36, Rebekah Robinson 15 from 17 and Shanice Beckford 11 from 13.

Goal Attack Unaisi Rauluni had 10 goals from 13 attempts for Fiji. The Sunshine Girls will next face Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday at 11:00 am Jamaica time.

A victory in this game will clinch a spot into stage two of the competition. In other games on Friday, defending champions Australia thumped Northern Ireland 88-24, debutants Zimbabwe got by Sri Lanka 79-49, New Zealand defeated Malawi 64-45 while Barbados got by Singapore 69-34. Host nation England defeated Uganda 64-32 while Scotland got the better of Samoa 53-35.
