Taekwondo Federation president creates history

Voice of Jamaica Taekwondo Federation president Conrad Jenkins

President of the Jamaica Taekwondo Federation Conrad Jenkins has created history after being inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame on Friday. Jenkins, who is also a coach and referee, left the island on Thursday for
New York.

The Taekwondo Hall of Fame recognizes persons who have contributed significantly to the creation, development and promotion of taekwondo as a martial art and global sport. Jenkins is hoping this recognition will encourage others to pursue and also give back to the sport in Jamaica.

“When other see that I am now elevating to that level of taekwondo it will encourage other Jamaicans to push hard and get themselves recognized internationally and also to build the sport of Olympic style taekwondo in Jamaica and to produce in terms of competing, coaching and refereeing,” said Jenkins.

Jenkins officiated at the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in China and was also selected "best male referee" at the 2015 WTF World Cup Team Taekwondo Championships in Mexico City.
