Talk of cutting 200M from the Olympics, bad news for Jamaica - Lawrence

Hubert Lawrence, a leading Jamaican track and field expert, believes Jamaica could be the hardest hit, should the International Olympic Committee (IOC) go ahead with plans to cut the 200 metres sprint from future Olympic games.

The structure of the Games is under constant review as the organisers try to make a tighter schedule and also give space to other sporting events.

On Wednesday, the IOC restated its intentions to trim the schedule, with the 200 metres, 10,000 metres, one of the men's race walks, the shot put and triple jump placed on the chopping blocks.

Lawrence says sacrificing the 200 metres would be hard to take, given the country's long history of success in the event.

Jamaica's Usain Bolt won won gold in the men's 200 at the last two Olympics.
