A new champion will be crowned in the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League. Defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs were ousted by 5 wickets by the Guyana Amazon Warriors in their eliminator playoff match on Wednesday night at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
Chasing 169 to win, the Amazon Warriors replied with 169-5 off 17.5 overs. Luke Ronchi led the way with 70 off 33 balls including 5 sixes and 5 fours. Jamaica's Chadwick Walton was also among the runs scoring 39 off 23 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Mohammad Mahmudullah bagged 3-25.
Earlier, the Tallawahs were restricted 168-8 as young Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan bagged a hattrick in the 14th over to end with 3-32. Captain Kumar Sangakarra top-scored with 57 not out while Lendl Simmons made 34 and Trevon Griffith 20. Steve Jacobs also took 2-32.
The Amazon Warriors will meet the Trinbago Knight Riders in the last eliminator on Thursday evening to decide who joins Chris Gayle's St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Saturday's grand final.
