Thomas-Ricketts records world-leading jump at UWI Invitational

World Championship triple jump finalist Shanieka Thomas-Ricketts leapt a world-leading 14.20 metres to highlight Saturday's UWI Invitational meet at the UWI Usain Bolt track.

Thomas-Ricketts, a 2016 Rio Olympic Games representative, won ahead of UWI team-mate Tamara Myers who leapt a Bahamian record 14.02 metres, just outside the World Championship qualifying standard of 14.10 metres.

Both athletes were outside the meet record of 14.57 set in 2016 by Thomas-Ricketts.

Olympic mile relay silver medallist Javon Francis, in only his second 200 metres since 2014, won in 20.73 seconds ahead of Oshane Bailey 20.85. Olympic 400 metre hurdles finalist Janieve Russell won the women's 400 metres in 52.59. Olympic sprint double champion Elaine Thompson finished down the track but in a personal best 55.98 seconds.

2013 World Youth champion Martin Manley won the men's event in 46.36 seconds.
