Thompson clocks world-leading time at Rome Diamond League

Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson stopped the clock in a world-leading 10.89 seconds to win the women’s 100m at the Rome Diamond League meet on Thursday. She got the victory over Great Britian's Dina Asher-Smith who was second in 10.94.

World and Olympic bronze medallist Shericka Jackson was second in the women's 400 metres in 51.05 seconds, while Stephenie McPherson was third in a season's best 51.39. The event won by Eid Salwa Naser of Bahrain in a season's best 50.26 seconds. Commonwealth gold medallist Janieve Russell was fifth in the women's 400 metre hurdles, crossing the line in 55.42 seconds.

In the field, 2015 World Championship bronze medallist O'Dayne Richards was fifth in the men's shot put with a season's best throw of 20.93 metres.
