Thompson displays great form at UTech Classic

Rio Olyimpics double sprint champion Elaine Thompson blazed her way to a wind-assisted 10.75 seconds in landing the Invitational women’s 100m to highlight the 9th staging of the UTech Track and Field Classic at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Thompson who looked in superb form throughout, ran with a following wind of 2.2 metres per second, just  a shade above the allowable limit of 2.0 metres per second.

The men’s equivalent went to Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes in 10.08 seconds as 2011 world champion Yohan Blake stumbled at the start at trailed home in 8th place in this heat in 10.88 seconds while Nesta Carter was third in 10.18 seconds.

Elsewhere, Olympic 400m bronze medallist Shericka Jackson clocked a personal best 22.57 seconds to win the Invitational women’s 200m.

Olympic 400m hurdles finalists Janieve Russell captured the timed final of the women's 400 metres flat event in 51.94 seconds ahead Ristanana Tracey and Anniesha McLaughlin-Whilby while Martin Manley took the men's equivalent in 46.25 seconds.

Ronald Levy of UTech created an upset in the men’s sprint hurdles where he clocked 13.15 seconds  to beat Olympic and World Championship medallist Hansle Parchment who did 13.29 seconds.
